Rchel corkett intro

Rachel Corkett composes modern instrumental classical-based music, using synthesized keyboards and samplers, to form rich and atmospheric musical textures and soundscapes. Her music has a highly evocative, uniquely emotional sonic depth.

Rachel's album 'Calm' has twelve pieces of music which are all original compositions that range from stark isolated piano lullabies to warm string-driven sonnets. Rachel's influences range from classical composers like Eric Satie to more recent contemporary composers such as Philip Glass and Michael Brook. Calm's delicate sense of melody and sparseness form a hypnotic-like quality which could be likened to ambient artists such as The Orb and John Hopkins.

There are no vocals on 'Calm' but the track titled 'Tommy' shares it's backing track with a song called 'Smile' which appears on Jane Birkin's album 'Rendez- vous'. 'Smile' was written by Rachel and Brian Molko. Brian sings 'Smile' as a duet with Jane Birkin.

Rachel grew up listening to a classic background of music from the 60's and 70's (such as The Beatles, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones), through to punk and present day ambient and EDM artists.

She has been playing the piano and has been writing songs for "as far back as she can remember". Her music has an intelligent simplicity; there are textures within her work which sound reminiscent of artists such as Vangelis and Brian Eno.

Over the years Rachel has sung backing vocals and played piano and keyboards for other contemporary bands and musicians which her husband Paul Corkett has produced and recorded. Her work has also been used for various film and television projects.
